Anger and Forgiveness

A strong feeling of hostility and the undeserved releasing of someone from such hostility.

It boils in your blood and floods your mind. Anger taps into core mental reflexes like self preservation and self-defense that route around reasoning and compassion. Furthermore, it quickly can transform into lingering bitterness that makes healthy relationships impossible. Instead of allowing love to be a person’s defining quality, anger can make a person obsessed with avenging wrongs and judging imperfections.

But forgiveness disarms the unhealthy tendencies of anger. It doesn’t deny a wrong has taken place but denies the wrongdoer the ability to fester bitterness in your heart. Forgiveness can’t change the past but it can change how you allow the past to define and shape you moving into the future.
