Doug Bender only had one prayer growing up – to have one good friend. But it took a painful journey through junior high, an empty birthday party, and a battle through self-esteem issues to realize that he already had the ultimate friend in God. For years, Doug searched for friendship everywhere but in the one place he was sure find it. But when he finally realized that God was not a religion but a loving Father and Friend, he found everything he was looking for.
Doug is author of I am Second: Real Stories. Changing Lives and Live Second: 365 Ways to Make Jesus First. He is an opportune speaker for young people suffering with self-esteem issues and confidence and for those enthusiastic about the stories behind the I am Second movement. His personal experiences have made him passionate about helping others through sharing Jesus, making disciples, and starting new churches.
Doug joined e3 Partners, an international church planting organization, five years ago. His first role in the ministry was as church planting trainer among unreached oral peoples in Ethiopia. Currently, Doug is the Director of Content, responsible for writing many of the small group and training materials available at iamsecond.com.
