Before I get into the meat of this post, I have a funny story.
You know those people you pass everyday that you’re not close friends with, so you smile at them when you make brief eye contact and then you both keep walking. You probably know their name, but you’ve seen their face enough that you know you know them, but not well enough that you have the strong desire to start a conversation. Maybe a little, “Hi!” is included in the meaningless exchange, but that’s about it.
I did that to Mike Huckabee back in March. I’d seen his face enough that I knew that I knew him, but didn’t feel so inclined to say anything. Twenty seconds later—the double-take hit me. “Shay… you just blew off a guy that was a presidential candidate. What is wrong with you?!” I went back and introduced myself, but I felt really silly. (My friend Julie has a funny story about Jason Witten like this… but she was making small talk, and asked him what he did for a living. Oops!)
All that to lead into a great announcement: The Mike Huckabee video was released today! (Click here to watch) Have you seen it yet? It’s kind of a twist on being second. I love this idea that it’s easy to seek God when things are hard, but what about when you are successful?
I don’t know if you know this, but I am Second is the first initiative in the United States for a missions organization called e3 Partners. It’s our first attempt to reach a successful and prospering nation (even in a recession we’re better off that most.) Of course I am Second is a great tool for the broken, the fearful, the lost, and the hurting, but what about the wealthy, the accomplished, and the well-off who don’t think they need God? This is a great message for them!
My encouragement is that you share this video with someone today. You don’t have to agree with him politically, because he’s speaking as a follower of Christ. Let me know how it goes! I’m expecting some success stories from all of you!
