IamSecond.com, the online-driven movement from e3 Partners Ministry, joins Web sites such as “Clif Bar 2 Mile Challenge” and “Tweet Congress” as finalists in the “Activism” category of the national SXSW Web Awards.
For the past 12 years, SXSW – short for South by Southwest – has recognized Web sites in 18 categories, also including “Blogs,” “Games” and “Technical Achievement,” that have been launched or completely redesigned within the previous year. Winners are revealed at the SXSW Web Awards Ceremony in Austin on March 15. Other finalists in the “Activism” category are “Sunny Side” and “Just in Queso.”
“It is humbling to see the I am Second Web site standing beside other Web sites that have cutting-edge appeal and global influence,” says Nathan Sheets, vice president of partnerships for I am Second. “We celebrate what the Lord is doing through the site, which originated organically by a team of creatives from all walks of life, dedicated to spreading the site’s message of hope so that lives could be changed by the Gospel all around the world.”
SXSW’s annual conference in Austin – SXSWeek 2009 – brings together the three industries of Internet, film and music to mirror the ever-increasing convergence of entertainment/media outlets. The organization’s goal is to create an event that acts as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas in these three areas.
In just over two months, I am Second has received over 500,000 Web visits from 178 countries around the world – attracted by the involvement of celebrities and everyday individuals who share their personal stories of overcoming life’s toughest struggles. Since going live in December 2008, I am Second has complemented the Web site presence with creative, targeted billboard, TV and radio media buys and kiosk advertising in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
“We continue to be amazed at what the I am Second Web site is doing to help engage those around the world, whom we may never know, to find solutions to life’s toughest challenges,” says John Humphrey, project manager for I am Second. “Because of the unique tone created by the team of Internet professionals and story- tellers, people’s lives are being touched and they are being connected to churches and groups that can provide help to them.”
Web development of iamsecond.com was handled by Simply Interactive of Austin, and the movement partnered with Ditore Mayo Entertainment of Plano in video production.
I am Second is a comprehensive multimedia outreach designed to help people discover their purpose in life through Christ.
